BUTTAH
“Buttha” stages the collision of two cultural stereotypes inside one body. The performer churns butter — a Polish traditional task while dressed as an English “roadman”, creating a stark and ironic contrast. Growing up in Peterborough, the performer was read as “English,” yet still is shaped by Polish values and rituals – creating a “third culture”. The piece resists tidy narratives of assimilation and instead embraces hybridity: two stereotypes clashing, merging, and reforming into something that belongs to neither category and both simultaneously.
